Rahul Kalate has submitted a memorandum to the municipal commissioner citing shortages of staff, vehicles and equipment in the Raigad (J) ward office area.

Wakad, October 29, 2026: BJP corporator Rahul Tanaji Kalate has demanded that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) urgently address garbage collection and cleanliness problems in the Raigad (J) ward office area. He said the area lacks manpower, vehicles and essential equipment.

Kalate has submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi. In it, he said that to meet the needs of a growing population the corporation had opened new ward offices but had not given them enough resources to deliver effective services to citizens.

According to Kalate, about three months have passed since the incident at the Moshi garbage depot, yet garbage collection in the area has not returned fully to normal. He said garbage vehicles are taking four to five hours to unload. With fewer vehicles, the number of trips has also fallen. He also alleged that contractors are not providing the required vehicles on time, affecting daily garbage collection and cleaning.

The Raigad (J) ward office area covers Wards 16, 25 and 26, with a combined population of more than three lakh. It includes fast-growing localities such as Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Pimple Nilakh, Ravet, Kiwale and Mamurdi.

Kalate said vehicles and sanitation workers are insufficient for the area's growing population. As a result, the corporation is receiving complaints of irregular garbage collection from many housing societies. Garbage is piling up and a stench is spreading.

Questioning the purpose of opening new ward offices without the necessary resources, Kalate said these new administrative units should function as service delivery centres and not remain merely an administrative reshuffle.

He has demanded the immediate deployment of an adequate number of garbage vehicles, including door-to-door collection vehicles, along with sanitation workers and other necessary machinery. He also asked that garbage collection trips be increased, contractors be monitored regularly and action be taken against those violating the set rules.

The memorandum also seeks regular inspection of garbage collection contractors, effective implementation of mechanical sweeping and strict action against agencies that are negligent in their work. Kalate also drew attention to the shortage of machines needed for drain cleaning, including jetting machines, and asked the administration to remove it.

Sewage treatment capacity is also a concern. In a separate issue raised in the memorandum, Kalate said the sewage treatment infrastructure in this rapidly urbanising area is inadequate. He alleged that sewage-laden wastewater is being released into drains and natural water bodies without proper treatment, posing a risk to the environment, water resources and public health.

He has demanded sewage treatment plants (STPs) of adequate capacity, expansion of existing facilities and strict monitoring so that untreated water does not reach natural water bodies. Kalate appealed to the PCMC administration to act urgently on these issues and to strengthen the sanitation and wastewater management infrastructure in line with the area's growing population.
