Police suspect the three siblings, found decomposed in a Virar West flat, took poison; a video on a mobile phone is being examined.

A tragic incident has come to light in the Vasai-Virar area. The bodies of three siblings were found inside a locked flat in Global City, Virar West, sending shock through the neighbourhood. Police's initial assessment is that the three died after consuming poison.

The incident took place in Room No. 1203, D Wing, Garden Avenue building, K-3D, Global City, Virar West. A strong stench had been coming from the flat for the past few days. Neighbours grew suspicious and promptly informed the building secretary and the Boliinj police.

A team from Boliinj police reached the spot soon after being informed. When police opened the door of the flat and went in, they found the bodies of three people in a decomposed state.

The three dead are siblings. They have been named as Kumar Mansukhlal Mehta (50), Dipesh Mansukhlal Mehta (52) and Khevna Mansukhlal Mehta (48).

Police inquiries have found that one brother in the family was battling a serious illness such as cancer. The family had also been facing severe financial hardship for some time. The initial suspicion is that the three took the step because of these twin troubles.

Police have come upon an important piece of information during the investigation. According to sources, one of the siblings had recorded a video on a mobile phone before dying. The video is said to contain a clear reference to suicide. Police have seized the phone and are working to establish the truth behind the video.

A forensic team also reached the spot on receiving news of the incident. The team drew up a panchnama and collected the necessary evidence. Police took the three bodies into their custody and sent them for post-mortem.

An accidental death entry has been made at Boliinj police station for now. Police said the actual cause of death will become clear only after the post-mortem report arrives and the examination of the video is complete.
