Class 10 girl dies after fall from fourth-floor flat in Pune's Hadapsar; exam stress suspected

A Class 10 student died at around 7 am on Sunday in Vaiduwadi in Pune's Hadapsar area. She is reported to have jumped from the balcony of her fourth-floor flat. Stress over the upcoming examinations is suspected to have weighed on her.

The girl studied at a private English-medium school in Hadapsar. Police said she was alone in the living room of the flat when the incident took place. From there she went to the balcony and jumped over the railing.

She fell in the parking area of the housing society. Residents rushed to the spot on hearing the sound and took her to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead. She had died by the time she reached the hospital.

Pandit Rejitwad, senior inspector at Wanwadi police station, said the girl's parents told investigators she was under considerable stress about the upcoming exams. She was finding it difficult to keep pace with her studies.

Rejitwad said: "We searched the room and other parts of the flat for a suicide note, but found nothing. Her parents have also told us that nobody had scolded her over her studies."

The girl's father works as an executive at a large, well-known company in Shivajinagar, while her mother is a homemaker.

Police said they will investigate the circumstances that led to the incident, including whether there was any reason other than academic stress. Proceedings to register an accidental death report have begun.
