A 23-year-old woman from Rajuri village in Junnar taluka of Pune district died by suicide on Thursday at her parents' home. She had been married for only a few months, having wed a partner of her choice. After allegations of physical and mental harassment emerged, police registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

The deceased has been identified as Sayali Siddhesh Danghat. She married Siddhesh on December 1, 2025. According to a complaint filed by her mother, Ashwini Kadam, the relationship between the couple deteriorated after the wedding, and the husband is alleged to have harassed Sayali.

Both worked for a private company in Mumbai. The complaint states that Siddhesh had taken control of Sayali's salary and had pawned her gold mangalsutra with a credit cooperative society. It is alleged that he beat her whenever she asked about the money and the jewellery.

Her mother has alleged that Sayali suffered harassment not only from her husband but also from her in-laws. The complaint names her mother-in-law, Jayashree Danghat, and sister-in-law, Sakshi Danghat.

Unable to bear the alleged harassment, Sayali returned to her parental home on October 20. Three days later, on October 23, her parents had gone out for work. She was found dead in the house at that time.

After the complaint, Alephata police registered a case against Siddhesh, Jayashree and Sakshi over the allegations of harassment. The allegations are being investigated, and police are currently examining the points raised in the complaint.
