A white car hit a young man standing by the roadside in Nagpur's Dharampeth area on Sunday night and fled the spot. The accident took place in front of the Mittal Electronics shop near Chhoti Lahori. The impact was so severe that the 29-year-old's right leg was fractured.

The injured man has been identified as Akshay Subhash Dhage (29). According to police, Sitabuldi police have registered a case against the unknown car driver and are searching for the driver.

The complaint was lodged by Akshay's uncle, Omprakash Bhimrao Dhage (51), a resident of Jai Nagar, Pandhrabodi. He told police that at around 12.45 am on Sunday, October 11, 2026, his nephew Akshay was standing at the spot. At that moment, the unknown driver of a white four-wheeler passing by drove at high speed and negligently and hit Akshay.

Akshay suffered a serious injury to his right leg, which was broken. It is alleged that after the collision the driver chose to flee instead of helping the injured man.

Police also said that the driver hit an electricity pole during the same incident, causing damage to government property.

Akshay has been admitted to Wockhardt Hospital in Shankar Nagar, where he is undergoing treatment.

As the driver has absconded, police are now investigating to establish the identity of the car and its driver. In the case registered on the complaint, facts about the car and driver involved in the accident will be brought out during the investigation.

Following the accident, questions are being raised in the area over drivers' negligence and road safety. The incident has once again brought up the demand that action be taken against hit-and-run drivers and that the injured get timely help.
