Yellow alerts for heat and rain in Maharashtra from October 15 to 17
The weather department has issued yellow alerts for heat in the Konkan and for light to moderate rain in several districts on October 15 and 16.
The weather in the state has been unusual in recent days. Humidity and a heatwave are troubling people in the Konkan and coastal areas, while light to moderate rain is expected in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and South Maharashtra. According to the weather department's forecast, yellow alerts for heat and rain have been issued for various districts of the state on October 15 and 16.
A heatwave is very likely in parts of Konkan-Goa on October 15. A yellow alert for heat has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in particular. People have been urged to take care of themselves.
On the same day, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at some places in the districts of South Central Maharashtra. A yellow alert for rain is in place for the Kolhapur ghat area and Kolhapur and Solapur districts. Light rain is also likely in South Konkan-Goa, North Central Maharashtra and Marathwada. The weather in North Konkan is expected to remain mostly clear.
Region-wise, the Konkan may see hot and humid weather with thunder and lightning-accompanied rain on the 15th. Rain and lightning are also likely at some places in Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha.
On October 16, the heat yellow alert will ease somewhat and be limited to Thane, Mumbai and Raigad. However, the rain yellow alert has been extended to more areas. A yellow alert for rain is in place that day for Sindhudurg, Pune, the Pune ghat area, the Kolhapur ghat area, Kolhapur, Satara, the Satara ghat area, Sangli, Solapur and Dharashiv districts. Light to moderate rain with thunder is possible in these areas.
The same trend is likely to continue on October 17. Rain with thunder and lightning may fall at some places in the Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada. The weather department has also forecast scattered rain at isolated places in Vidarbha. In view of the changing weather, people have been asked to take care of their health and follow the weather department's advisories.
Division-wise, on October 15 and 16 the Konkan may see rain at some places, thunder with lightning, and hot and humid weather. Rain and lightning are likely in Central Maharashtra. Rain is possible at some places in Marathwada and Vidarbha, and lightning is also likely in Marathwada on the 16th. On October 17, rain with lightning is possible in the Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada, while some places in Vidarbha may see rain.
