Washim Congress stages dharna outside Collector's office, seeks probe into CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The Washim district Congress committee submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding an inquiry and legal action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Washim district Congress committee staged a dharna in front of the Collector's office on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector. The party has made serious allegations about the SIR of the electoral process across the country. On the basis of these allegations, it has demanded an inquiry into Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and legal action against him.
The demand was made under the leadership of Raju Chaudhari, president of the Washim district Congress committee. The memorandum was handed to the District Collector after the dharna.
In the memorandum, the Congress has objected to the way the Election Commission functions. The party said the Commission must work independently and impartially. The memorandum raises questions about the deletion of voters' names during the SIR process, irregularities in the registration of new voters, and the centralisation of the Election Commission's IT systems.
The Congress also claimed that the number of voters rose sharply in the Maharashtra Assembly election. The party wants the figures examined and the facts made clear. The memorandum also seeks an inquiry into the decisions of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.
Dilip Sarnaik, general secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, was present. He was joined by a large number of Congress workers and office-bearers, including Chandrakant Sathe, Javed Saudagar, Raju Wankhade, Sonali Landge, Madhukar Jumde, Dr Shyam Gabhane, Kisan Maske, Parasram Bhoyar, Gajanan Gote, Vijay Deshmukh, Rameshwar Devkar and Manish Bhalerao.
The programme was conducted by Ujjwal Deshmukh, and Suresh Ratnaparkhi proposed the vote of thanks.
