Voter list: claims and objections deadline extended to October 12
The Election Commission has extended Maharashtra's voter list revision deadline to October 12, with BLOs now visiting homes to collect documents.
The Election Commission of India has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Maharashtra. The decision came on a specific request from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Citizens can now file claims and objections until October 12, 2026.
At a meeting held today, the Commission decided to extend the deadline for filing claims and objections to October 12, 2026. Any notices, claims and objections received after that will have to be disposed of by November 10, 2026. Following this exercise, Maharashtra's final voter list will be published on November 16, 2026.
In another relief this time, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit voters' homes themselves to collect the required documents. Voters who have been sent notices for being "unmapped" or for a "logical discrepancy" will have BLOs come to their homes to collect the necessary papers. This means such voters will no longer have to go anywhere to submit documents.
Since documents will be collected from home, the voters concerned will not need to visit the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) for a direct hearing. Only in specific or exceptional cases will hearings be held online. In such hearings, any adult member of the voter's family can be present in place of the voter.
Special arrangements are also being made for homeless citizens, labourers, poor people and those living in night shelters. District Election Officers (DEOs) have been asked to set up special help centres and camps as needed to make the process of voter registration and correction of the electoral roll easier for them. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer gave this information in a press release.
