The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) have taken a major step to free Mumbaikars from traffic jams and save travel time. A network of sea links and elevated roads is being built to ease travel from Bandra to Goregaon (Bangur Nagar). If the projects are completed on schedule, travel for Mumbaikars will become much faster and more comfortable from 2029, according to the information available.

Under the North Mumbai Coastal Road project, the BMC has taken up the large Versova to Dahisar-Bhayander coastal road project. In Package A of the project, a 4.54-km elevated road is being built from the Versova interchange to Goregaon's Bangur Nagar. The 8-lane bridge will be about 45 metres wide, and the main elevated stretch is 4.3 km long.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar recently inspected the entire area and reviewed the work. He has given strict instructions to officials to stick to deadlines and complete the work on time. Pillar construction is under way in the area, while the foundation stages have been completed successfully.

The BMC project will be linked to MSRDC's Bandra to Versova sea link. The 17-km sea link will connect to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and work on it is progressing rapidly. Both key projects are targeted for completion by December 2028. Once they are ready, travel from Bandra to Versova and on to Goregaon will be possible by a faster route.

Today, motorists travelling between Versova and Goregaon or Bangur Nagar face heavy congestion on Link Road or S.V. Road. The journey currently takes 40 to 50 minutes or more. Once the new 8-lane elevated road and the sea link are complete, the same journey could take just 10 to 15 minutes. The projects will also considerably reduce pressure on the Western Express Highway.

In short, the BMC is building the elevated road while the MSRDC is building the sea link. Both projects are targeted for completion by December 2028, and if they meet the deadline, travel on this route will become faster from 2029.
