BMC additional commissioner directs Worli Nehru Science Centre flyover be finished by January 31, 2027
Abhijit Bangar reviewed the flyover and subway work between Nehru Science Centre and Nehru Planetarium on September 30, 2026, and set the January 2027 deadline.
There is an update on the flyover and subway being built in Worli between the Nehru Science Centre and the Nehru Planetarium. Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, has directed that work on these projects be completed by January 31, 2027. He visited the site on September 30, 2026, and reviewed the present state of the work in full.
On the Nehru Science Centre (NSC) side, work on the main 1,200 mm diameter piles is 100 per cent complete. Of 18 pile caps, 17 are done, as are 17 of 18 piers and 17 of 18 pier caps.
On the Jijamata Nagar side too, the main piling of 1,200 mm diameter is complete. All 17 pile caps, 17 piers and 17 pier caps are ready here.
Portal beams and girders are being made both at the project site and at the casting yard. All 14 portal beams have been made. Of 18 girder spans, 17 are complete and work on the remaining one is under way.
Erection work is also moving quickly. Of 14 portal beams, 13 have been erected, and 9 of 18 girder spans have been placed. Deck slab concreting is complete in 7 of 18 spans, while concreting is under way in 2 more spans.
The flyover will shorten commuters' journeys. At present, motorists on this route have to take a detour via Worli Naka (Acharya Atre Chowk). Once the proposed flyover is built, travel time is expected to fall by about 15 minutes.
The bridge will give an easier and shorter route from E. Moses Road directly towards Annie Besant Road and the Dharmaveer Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. Vehicles coming from Lower Parel, Mahalaxmi and Curry Road will also be able to use the bridge directly.
As a result, it will help ease traffic congestion around Worli Naka. With shorter distances and less congestion, motorists will also save fuel.
Bangar directed that the manpower, machinery and resources needed to complete the remaining work on schedule be planned properly and that the pace of work be stepped up. He said the project should move forward with the necessary coordination among the various departments. He also said a traffic plan should be prepared in coordination with the traffic police.
