The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a proposal to name the Jewar international airport in Noida after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision after the Cabinet meeting on Friday.

Adityanath said Modi completed 25 years of service in public office on October 7, and the state government decided to honour his work on the occasion. According to Adityanath, the Prime Minister has put service, dedication and nation-building first. He also said the country has made a new name for itself at the global level under his leadership.

The meeting cleared 39 proposals in all. The Chief Minister himself announced the decisions at a press conference. Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak were present, along with leaders of the allied parties. The Cabinet also passed a resolution congratulating the Prime Minister on completing 25 years of public service.

At the press conference, the Chief Minister also presented details of the state's development work. He said 42 new highways have been built in Uttar Pradesh under Modi's leadership. Adityanath claimed that coordination between the Centre and the state government is driving rapid infrastructure development in the state.

On the Jewar airport, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated its first phase on March 28, 2026. The airport is to be built in four phases in all. Once the full project is complete, it could count among Asia's large airports in terms of passenger capacity.

A terminal and runway have been built for the first phase on about 3,300 acres. The annual passenger-handling capacity of the airport in this phase is said to be about 1.2 crore. The airport will give travellers from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and western Uttar Pradesh a new option for air travel. It is expected to boost tourism, industry, trade and employment opportunities as well.
