PM Modi condoles Nana Patekar's death, says country lost an extraordinary artiste

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief at the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar. Paying tribute, Modi said the country had lost an extraordinary and versatile artiste. He particularly mentioned Patekar's powerful acting, his outspokenness and his firm stand on social issues.
In his condolence message, the Prime Minister praised the distinct identity of Patekar's acting, its intensity and his impactful personality. According to Modi, few artistes possess such intensity, a style so distinct and so impactful a personality.
The Prime Minister also said the varied characters Patekar played would always be remembered by audiences. He brought a different perspective and creativity to every role. Modi wrote that his acting left its mark on several generations.
Patekar was not only a powerful actor but was also known for his blunt and forthright nature. He never held back in stating his views. In his tribute, Modi said he continued to speak up on social questions as well.
Saying that Patekar's contribution to the Hindi and Marathi film industries was unmatched, Modi also spoke of the void left by his passing.
Patekar died in Goa in the early hours of Thursday. He was 75. He was found unconscious in his apartment in Dona Paula and was rushed to hospital.
Doctors administered CPR for about 45 minutes to try to save him, but the treatment had no effect and he died. Condolences are pouring in from the film industry and across the country after news of his death. Prime Minister Modi ended his tribute with the words, "I express my condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti."
