Tuljabhavani temple guard alleges police beat him up for stopping them at brass gate

A security guard of the temple trust says policemen on duty assaulted him during Navratri and are refusing to register his complaint; he is in hospital.

A security guard employed by the temple trust at the Tuljabhavani temple has been badly beaten, and he alleges that policemen assaulted him. According to him, he had not allowed the policemen to go inside through the brass gate, and they attacked him out of anger over this.

The Shardiya Navratri festival of Goddess Tuljapur is under way these days, and the temple is witnessing a very heavy rush of devotees. Following the security rules amid the crowd, the guard had refused to let some people in through the brass gate.

According to the guard's allegation, three to four policemen deployed on bandobast duty argued with him out of resentment over this. A scuffle followed, in which one policeman attacked the guard with a kada (metal bracelet) worn on his hand. The guard suffered a serious injury and began bleeding.

The injured guard has been admitted to hospital for treatment. The guard has also alleged that the police are refusing to register his complaint against their own personnel.

The guard said that after the assault he went to the police station seeking justice. He says those accused are police personnel themselves, so the local policemen are not registering a case against them and are stalling. According to the guard, injustice has been done to him.

The guard also says there is a video of the assault, which took place inside the temple premises, as evidence. He expressed regret that the police are still not registering a case.

The guard is undergoing treatment in hospital and is demanding that his complaint be registered.
