The complainant is Suresh Ganpatrao Satare, 49, a resident of Jamtukum, Pombhurna tehsil, Chandrapur district. Satare earns a living as a labourer to support his family. He had quarrelled earlier with Shrikant Ravindra Kamidwar, 28, of the same village, over money, and the two had not been on good terms since.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on October 30 at about 8.30 pm. After having dinner at home, Satare went to Vijay Deurmale's paan shop near the village's Hanuman temple to have kharra, a chewing tobacco preparation. He was sitting on a bench beside the temple when the suspect, Shrikant Kamidwar, arrived in his car from outside, parked near his house and got out.

Satare says he asked Shrikant when he would return the old money. Shrikant flew into a rage. The complaint says he hurled obscene abuse, saying "you are the reason my mind is disturbed", slapped Satare three or four times on the cheek and dragged him to the gate of his house.

According to the complainant, the suspect's father, Ravindra Gajanan Kamidwar, 55, and mother, Jyoti Ravindra Kamidwar, 50, also arrived amid the quarrel. The three are alleged to have pulled and dragged him and beaten him severely with fists. The complaint also states that villagers Gajanan Gaddekar, Vilas Kasture, Mangala Gaddekar, Archana Deurmale, Balaji Pipre and Jayashree Gaddekar were present throughout.

Satare alleges that he was abused obscenely and threatened with death in front of people at a public place such as the square. He then went to Pombhurna police station and lodged his complaint.
