India's premium and luxury car market is growing fast, and three new car brands may enter the country by the end of 2027. They are BYD's premium brand Denza, Tata Motors' Avinya and Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis. Their arrival could give Indian buyers new options in luxury electric cars and premium SUVs.
Chinese company BYD is preparing to launch its premium brand Denza in the Indian market in 2026. The brand's portfolio includes the D9 MPV and the Z9 GT shooting brake. The D9 is a luxury MPV that could compete with models such as the MG M9. The Z9 emphasises sporty design and premium features.
Denza also sells large SUVs named N8, N8L and N9. The company has also unveiled an electric sports car called the Z. The D9 and Z9 are expected to come to India first, but it is not yet clear whether these vehicles will be fully electric or plug-in hybrids.
The second brand is Tata Avinya. Tata Motors plans to create a separate premium electric car brand under the Avinya name. The brand's first electric car could be unveiled in the second half of 2027. A second model could follow within one to two years of the first.
Under the company's plan, the target is to bring a total of 10 electric models under the Tata.ev and Avinya brands by March 2031. Avinya's first car could be an electric SUV in the C or D segment, with a likely ex-showroom price of Rs 30 to 35 lakh. Built on the new multi-energy platform, the car could focus on premium design, modern technology and a comfortable cabin.
The third brand is Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, which is likely to come to India in the second half of 2027. Established in 2015, the brand has several models, including the G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70 and GV80.
The GV80 is a premium SUV that could rival the BMW X5, while the GV80 Coupe comes with a sporty look. These vehicles could be among the early models in India. The company may assemble imported parts in India to keep prices competitive. Competition in the Indian luxury car market is expected to intensify in the coming days.
