Three men wanted in a drug trafficking case were detained in Kamthi on Thursday after their Tata Harrier hit a Metro site barricade and overturned during a chase.
A filmstyle chase between police and suspects wanted in a narcotics trafficking case took place in Nagpur's Kamthi area in the early hours of Thursday. The suspects' Tata Harrier, which was fleeing police, hit a barricade at a Metro rail construction site and overturned. Police then detained all three men in the vehicle. The action took place at about 5.40 am.
The case is linked to the anti-narcotics squad of New Kamthi police. The squad received a tip-off through Senior Police Inspector Nitin Dhansing Rathod that Mohammad Shariq Mohammad Rajik, wanted in a drug trafficking case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, was in a Tata Harrier in the Yashodhara Nagar area with two associates. A police team laid a trap on that basis.
The three suspects were travelling from Yashodhara Nagar towards Kanhan via Ghorpad Road. Police signalled them to stop on Dragon Palace Temple Road. The suspects did not stop and tried to flee at high speed. Police gave chase. During this, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and the car hit the barricade at the Metro construction site and overturned.
The names and addresses of the three men taken into custody have been given as follows. Mohammad Shariq Mohammad Rajik is 33 and lives in Vanjara Layout, Pili Nadi. Abdul Karim Mohammad Mukim is 30 and lives in Hamid Nagar, Pili Nadi. The third, Ghulam Yazdani Mohammad Rashid Ansari, is 26 and lives in the Farooq Nagar locality of Teka Naka, Nagpur.
A case has been registered at New Kamthi police station under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is continuing into the alleged role of the three accused in the drug trafficking case.
