Tata Motors and Stellantis have signed a definitive agreement to develop new vehicles in India. Under the agreement, the plan is to build new vehicles for more than 50 international markets. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), Tata Motors' electric vehicle business, has also been included in the collaboration. The vehicles will be produced at the joint project at Ranjangaon near Pune.

Ranjangaon is home to Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture of Tata Motors and Stellantis. The plant currently makes vehicles such as the Tata Nexon, Altroz and Curvv, along with some Jeep models. The Jeep Compass and Meridian are produced here, while the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are assembled using the CKD method. The factory also has production facilities for engines, transmissions and electric drivetrains.

As per the agreement, Tata Motors will give Stellantis the opportunity to use the architecture and product technology of its vehicles. Stellantis will develop new vehicles in India with the help of its engineering team. The vehicles will then be modified as needed to suit the rules of different countries, road conditions and the needs of local customers. In this way, India's vehicle development capability can serve global markets.

Vehicles are already exported from the Ranjangaon plant to countries such as Japan and South Africa. The new agreement could create an opportunity to increase production and export of vehicles developed for Stellantis' global markets. India's auto parts suppliers and existing production machinery are also likely to benefit from the initiative.

The industrial partnership between Tata Motors and Stellantis is more than two decades old. In February 2026, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. The definitive agreement now gives concrete shape to the collaboration on vehicle architecture and technology.

The Stellantis group includes brands such as Jeep, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The partnership will focus on developing vehicles for international needs using India's engineering and production facilities. The names of the new models, the launch timeline and export details have not yet been disclosed.
