Tata Motors has launched its popular and affordable sedan Tigor in the Indian market in a new avatar. The company has named the new car the Tata Eris. It will be sold only as a private car and will not be available for commercial use.

The Eris has been described as the successor to the Tigor and has been made more modern and stylish. The company has set the starting ex-showroom price of this budget-friendly sedan at Rs 5,29,990. For those planning to bring home a new car this Diwali, the on-road price, down payment and EMI calculation will be useful.

The on-road price can vary from state to state. According to the figures given, the ex-showroom price is Rs 5,29,990, RTO charges are Rs 47,699 and insurance is Rs 31,713. The total on-road price works out to Rs 6,09,402.

Suppose a buyer makes a down payment of Rs 1 lakh on the Eris. A car loan will then have to be taken for the remaining Rs 5,09,402. If the buyer's monthly income is good and the CIBIL or credit score is healthy, a loan at an interest rate of 10 per cent can be obtained easily.

If this loan is taken for five years, or 60 months, the borrower will have to pay 60 instalments of Rs 10,823 each month at 10 per cent interest. Through the instalments, the buyer will pay a total of Rs 6,49,397. Adding the Rs 1 lakh down payment, the total cost of the car will be Rs 7,49,397.

On the cabin, the dual-tone theme is the same as that of the Tiago. The base variant gets a 12.7 cm digital cluster, fabric seats and manual AC. Higher variants come with a 26 cm touchscreen (with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), ventilated leather seats, rear AC vents, a wireless charger, a 65W Type-C port and a rotary gear selector. Boot space is 419 litres in the petrol model and about 227 litres in the CNG model.

Features include cruise control, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera with dashcam function, blind view monitor, rain-sensing wipers and iRA connected car technology. On safety, all variants come with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors and seatbelt reminders as standard. The 'Pure+' variant also gets ESP, hill-hold and TPMS.

On the engine front, the Eris has a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The iCNG option produces 75.5 PS of power and 96.5 Nm of torque. The car can be bought with a 5-speed manual (MT) or an AMT gearbox. Mileage is stated to be about 19 to 20 kmpl for the petrol model and 28 km/kg for the CNG model.

The on-road price and EMI figures given here are only an example. They may change depending on the city, dealership, RTO and the variant chosen. According to experts, a buyer with a monthly income of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 and no large existing debt can comfortably buy this car on an EMI of Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.
