Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, October 11, Raut said Modi would not be in power by March. "This is my prediction," he said.
The statement comes at a time when protests are being held in many places demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police in Delhi and Mumbai are detaining protesters in large numbers. There is considerable anger over the police action. The opposition is attacking the Central government and the Delhi Police strongly.
Raising the issue of alleged differences within the BJP, Raut targeted Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He claimed that four senior BJP leaders are currently in a different frame of mind, and that they include a senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader. Raut also said that in the coming time many BJP leaders would move away from Modi and Shah. He predicted that Modi would step down as Prime Minister in the next six to seven months.
Raut also strongly criticised the Central government over the CJP agitation in Delhi and the detention of protesters. According to him, the matter is not limited to one organisation but concerns the country's democracy. He alleged that the Delhi Police is detaining a former chief minister and MPs, and said conditions resembling an Emergency have arisen in the country. Raut also mentioned the tight security around the residences of Modi and Shah, and criticised the government over this as well.
Raut also expressed anger over the arrest of Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, during the protest in Mumbai. He questioned the detention of Tushar Gandhi and demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis apologise for it.
Sanjay Raut also raised questions about the funds received by the BJP. He demanded that it be made public who gave financial support to the party. In this connection, he also referred to the PM fund and allegations of vote theft.
Political circles are now watching how the BJP responds to this claim about Modi's hold on power, the alleged differences within the party and the allegations about funds.
