The Ravan Dahan held at Kasturchand Park in Nagpur has reached its 75th year. To mark the platinum jubilee, a five-day programme has been planned from October 16 to 20, 2026. The event is being organised by the Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha. It includes cultural performances, a special Ramlila and the traditional burning of giant effigies of Ravan, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad.
The annual event holds a special place among Nagpur's Dussehra traditions. This year the organisers have expanded the programme, with cultural performances ahead of the main Ravan Dahan on October 20.
The programme begins on October 16 with a bhajan jamming session. A grand Ramlila will then be staged on October 17, 18 and 19. According to the organisers, the Ramlila will use audio-visual effects and a fire show to bring key episodes of the Ramayana to life. They say this format is being introduced at the event for the first time. Entry to these cultural programmes will be free for the public.
The biggest attraction of the platinum jubilee celebrations will be the burning of three tall effigies. The Ravan effigy will be 75 feet tall, Kumbhakarna's 65 feet and Meghnad's 55 feet. The main Ravan Dahan will take place at Kasturchand Park on October 20. According to the organisers, entry to this main event will be through donation passes.
Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha president Vinay Oberoi said special invitations have been extended to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Padma Shri awardee Satyanarayan Moolwal. The information provided by the organisers does not confirm whether they will attend.
The organisers say the aim of the event is to preserve an old cultural tradition of Nagpur and to promote the ideals and values associated with Lord Ram. Oberoi appealed to city residents to take part in the platinum jubilee celebrations and make the 75th year memorable.
The effigies will be burnt on October 20, after four days of cultural programmes. Devotees and other people from Nagpur and surrounding areas are expected to attend. Those wishing to go are advised to check the organisers' official announcements for timings, entry arrangements and traffic information.
