The Nagpur crime branch's anti-burglary squad arrested a 19-year-old and detained a minor, recovering gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 4,79,990.

Nagpur: The anti-burglary squad of the Nagpur crime branch has solved a burglary in the Surendra Nagar area. Police recovered gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 4,79,990 in the case. A 19-year-old accused has been arrested, and a minor allegedly involved in the crime has also been detained.

The burglary took place between October 22 and 26. The house, on Plot No. 4 near the State Bank of India in Surendra Nagar, falls under the Bajaj Nagar police station limits. The owner and complainant, Dr Atul Keshavrao Kapse (40), had locked the house and gone with his family to Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

Taking advantage of the family's absence, unidentified thieves allegedly broke the lock on the main door, entered the house and ransacked a bedroom. They broke open an iron cupboard and took away Rs 25,000 in cash, various gold and silver ornaments, a camera, a wristwatch and an Apple laptop charger. The total value of the stolen goods was estimated at Rs 7.16 lakh.

On Dr Kapse's complaint, Bajaj Nagar police registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 305(a), 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

While Bajaj Nagar police were investigating in their own way, the crime branch's anti-burglary squad also continued a parallel inquiry. Based on technical evidence and specific confidential information, the squad identified the suspects and detained a minor allegedly involved in the burglary.

During questioning, the boy reportedly confessed that he had committed the crime with an accomplice, Karan Khemchand Meshram (19). Meshram lives in Lane No. 8 near the Takshashila Buddha Vihar in Lashkaribagh, under the Pachpaoli police station limits.

Police then arrested Meshram. A large part of the stolen valuables was recovered from the accused and the minor. The recovered items include 296.07 grams of gold jewellery and 624.93 grams of silver jewellery, together worth Rs 4,79,990.

The arrested accused, the detained minor and the seized property have been handed over to Bajaj Nagar police for further legal action. Further investigation is under way.
