Nagpur: The student who was allegedly sexually exploited has lodged a complaint against a professor with the administration of Symbiosis Law College. On the basis of the complaint, the college administration has formed an internal inquiry committee and suspended the professor. The committee's report is said to be due in five days. It has been learnt that the professor is to be dismissed on that basis. Meanwhile, seeing his troubles mount, the law professor sent his resignation to the college management late on Saturday night.

The Symbiosis college has been at the centre of a controversy for the past five days. A professor there is accused of exploiting a student. The professor is said to have been threatening the student for a long time by sending her religious and other objectionable messages. Fearing disgrace, the student had not told anyone about the incident. Her family members grew suspicious on noticing a change in her behaviour, and the incident came to light after they questioned her. Her family members then beat up the professor on the Symbiosis campus. On Saturday, tension prevailed on the campus through the day because of protests by the ABVP, the Vishva Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal. Late in the evening, the atmosphere heated up as the Bajrang Dal and the Vishva Hindu Parishad held a militant protest.

Leaders of the Bajrang Dal and the Vishva Hindu Parishad had gone to Symbiosis with the student and her family members. They said the professor had earlier been in the news for luring and threatening female students. They also said a woman teacher supports him, and that the Symbiosis administration too wants to protect the professor. After discussion, Symbiosis officials said a committee would be formed to inquire into the case. They assured that the inquiry would be completed in five days and action taken against the professor. After this, the Bajrang Dal, the Vishva Hindu Parishad and the student's family members calmed down.

According to sources, the committee Symbiosis has formed for the internal inquiry includes people from the institute who have come from Pune. The committee also recorded statements from students on Sunday. The student has not filed a complaint with the police, so the police are unable to take any action. As a precaution, they have deployed police personnel on the Symbiosis campus.
