A case of murder over an alleged love affair has come to light in Chandrapur. Police have arrested Santosh Bhagwan Sakharkar, 49, a teacher, in connection with the killing. The victim has been identified as Vaishali Vilas Tiple, 45. Both are said to be residents of Chandrapur.

It is alleged that after the killing, Sakharkar put the body in the boot of his car and buried it at his house in Dongargaon on Wardha Road in Nagpur. According to police, the accused later went to a police station himself and narrated the entire incident.

Santosh is a teacher by profession and is married with children. Vaishali was also married, but her husband had left her. The two are said to have been in a relationship for several years.

It is said that for some time Vaishali had been pressing Santosh to live with her. Because he had a family, Santosh was not willing. It is alleged that the two were quarrelling over this.

According to police, on October 14 the two went in Santosh's car to the Pathanpura Road area of Chandrapur. There the quarrel over living together escalated. It is alleged that during this, Santosh strangled Vaishali to death and put the body in the car boot.

The body is said to have remained in the boot all night. The next day the accused took it to the Aadhar Nagari premises at Dongargaon on Wardha Road in Nagpur. He had bought the house as an investment. A pit had already been dug in the house for building a water tank. It is alleged that he put the body in that pit and covered it with soil.

It later emerged that the accused felt remorse for what he had done. He then went to the police station himself and reported the incident. Police contacted Vaishali's family and began further action.

Chandrapur police inspector Shyam Gavhane reached Nagpur with his team. With the help of Hingna police station officer Pramod Ghonge and his team, the body was exhumed in the presence of a tehsildar. The process continued through the night, and at about 6 am on Sunday the Chandrapur police left with the body.

The victim's son was present during the proceedings. He is said to have been unaware of these developments. Police are investigating the case further. The full picture will become clear only after the circumstances behind the killing and other aspects of the episode are examined.
