The Vishva Hindu Parishad's Gau Vigyan Kendra in Nagpur has been given the status of 'cow tourism'. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat handed the certificate to Padmesh Gupta of the Kendra. Speaking on the occasion, Bhagwat made a special appeal to society.

Bhagwat referred to an RSS song whose sentiment is that spoken words fade, but good deeds are immortal. He said the work being done by the Gau Vigyan Kendra and the Vishva Hindu Parishad is certainly precious. But, he said, given the needs of society, cow service alone is not enough. According to him, it is necessary for everyone to do this work for their own protection and the protection of dharma.

He said society likes festivals and takes part in them with enthusiasm. But society expects that the work that ought to be done will be done by someone else, not by oneself. There is also a mindset that God should take an avatar to protect and establish dharma, that "we will not do it, we have jobs, we have other work". Bhagwat said that whenever this work of protecting dharma was done, the effort of the whole society was behind it. His appeal was that one should work for the country and society with full strength, without worrying about what will happen and what will happen to oneself.

The Sarsanghchalak also said it is a duty to give society a part of whatever one earns. Only if that happens will it be proved that we are following in the footsteps of our great men.

State Minister of State for Finance Ashish Jaiswal said the Devlapar area was already well known for its sanctuary and its tigers. Now people will also come to learn about the Gau Vigyan Kendra here and its research. He said the Maharashtra government has given the Gau Vigyan Kendra at Devlapar the status of a cow pilgrimage site (Gau-Tirth). This will make it possible to provide government funds for research here in the coming days. Jaiswal also said that as drought conditions prevail at present, there is an idea to grow fodder on CFR land in different districts.

Vishva Hindu Parishad national president Alok Kumar recalled Ashok Singhal. He said 1990 comes to mind today. The then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh had put up many obstacles and difficulties in Ayodhya and on every road leading to Ayodhya. Even so, the Hindu community took up the challenge. The people of Ayodhya supported the kar sevaks and gave them shelter. According to Alok Kumar, Ashok Singhal reached there on a motorcycle. A brick hit his head, but ignoring it, he stayed firm in the kar seva. The injured Singhal gave courage to the Hindu community that day and a sense of victory.
