Nagpur: Tension had persisted for the past four days at Symbiosis Law College in Nagpur over the alleged sexual exploitation of a student. On Saturday evening, at around 7 pm, workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal reached the college campus in large numbers. They entered the premises, shouted slogans and vandalised property. Police reached the spot after the incident.

The atmosphere on the campus had been tense since a professor of the law faculty was accused of sexually exploiting a student. It is alleged that police were avoiding action by citing the absence of a complaint from the victim's family. Tension over this issue had also persisted for the past two days. On Saturday morning, workers of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a demonstration in front of the college.

In the evening, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers reached the campus and protested. They alleged that the college administration was trying to suppress the case of the student's alleged sexual exploitation. They also demanded an investigation into aspects of the case linked to religious conversion. They further claimed that allegations of exploitation and blackmail of other female students by the professor were also being discussed.

Accusing the administration of not letting the truth of the matter come out, the protesters demanded strict action against the professor concerned and against officials who allegedly shielded him. They said no negligence in matters of students' safety would be tolerated.

On receiving information about the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the Symbiosis campus. The situation on the campus remained tense for a long time. Protesting workers and students continued to shout slogans against the college administration.

The allegations relating to sexual exploitation, blackmail and religious conversion are yet to be independently confirmed. The situation may become clearer once the official position of the college administration and the police is available.
