Nagpur: Crime Branch arrests man who stole moped to fund wife's birthday celebration

Nagpur: The Crime Branch has arrested a man who stole a moped out of a zeal to celebrate his wife's birthday in grand style. The accused first pawned his mother's vehicle to raise money, then stole someone else's moped to escape her scolding. CCTV cameras exposed the whole affair. The Crime Branch's anti-vehicle theft squad arrested the accused and solved two theft cases. The accused is Anshul Gajbe, 24, a resident of Dattatreya Nagar.

Anshul is a habitual offender. His wife works in event management and catering in Mumbai. Anshul needed money to celebrate her birthday in grand style, and so he pawned his mother's vehicle. When she did not see the vehicle at home, his mother scolded him severely. The accused then stole a moped from the Imamwada area and gave it to his mother. He left for Mumbai to celebrate his wife's birthday. But he apparently had no idea that the city's CCTV cameras were keeping a record of his actions. Based on leads from the cameras, the anti-vehicle theft squad arrested Anshul. During questioning, he confessed to stealing the moped.

During the investigation, police also recovered another two-wheeler stolen from the Mayo Hospital premises. It is said that Anshul had abandoned this vehicle near Zero Mile Chowk, from where a vehicle thief named Rahul alias Chhota Tiwari later stole it. After solving the two vehicle theft cases, the Crime Branch has handed Anshul Gajbe over to Imamwada police for further action. According to police, about 10 cases relating to theft, vehicle theft and drug trafficking are already registered against Anshul. His mother runs a mess at home, while his wife works in event management and catering in Mumbai.
