Mercedes-AMG has entered the luxury electric SUV segment with its new electric GT SUV. The five-seater is built on the AMG.EA platform, with the emphasis on strong power, fast charging and long range. The company claims the SUV can run up to 700 km on a single charge.

The SUV is offered in three variants: GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63. All three have an all-wheel-drive system. The top-end GT 63 has three axial-flux motors that produce 1,153 hp of power and 2,000 Nm of torque. This variant takes just 2.7 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph.

The GT 53 has two electric motors producing 536 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque, and a two-speed rear gearbox. The GT 55 gets 805 hp of power and 1,860 Nm of torque.

The SUV has an 800V electrical architecture and two battery options, 106 kWh or 128 kWh. The GT 53 comes with the 106 kWh battery, while the GT 55 and GT 63 also have the larger battery as an option. The 128 kWh battery supports DC fast charging of up to 710 kW. The company claims this battery can charge from 10 to 80% in about 12 minutes. It also claims that 10 minutes of charging can add up to 454 km of WLTP range. According to the company, the maximum WLTP range of the GT 55 and GT 63 is up to 700 km.

Inside, there is a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and a 14-inch central touchscreen. A separate 14-inch screen for the passenger is offered as an option. The MBUX voice assistant includes ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. The GT 63 gets carbon-ceramic brakes and AMG Active Ride Control+ suspension as standard. With the rear seats folded, boot space increases to up to 1,740 litres.

In Germany, order bookings for the GT 53 will open on October 20, at a price of 113,050 euros. With German VAT, this works out to roughly Rs 1.20 crore. The GT 55 and GT 63 variants will arrive in spring 2027. The vehicle will be produced at the Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The company has not yet officially said whether the SUV will be launched in India.
