Demand for 7-seater family cars is rising in India's car market, and Hyundai is reportedly preparing to bring in a new MPV. The three-row MPV is said to be named the Hyundai Neira. It is expected to reach the Indian market in 2027, with a launch likely in the first half of that year.

The car was shown as an electric concept at the 2026 Indonesia motor show. In India, however, it is likely to start with petrol, diesel and CNG engines.

The Neira may be built on the platform of the Kia Carens Clavis. That means some technical parts and the cabin layout of the two vehicles could be similar. Even so, Hyundai may change the front design, alloy wheels and branding to give its MPV a distinct identity. A connected tail-lamp design is likely at the rear. In the market, it could compete with cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the Kia Carens Clavis.

On engines, the Neira may get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel option. A company-fitted CNG variant could also be introduced. The company has not officially said anything yet about these engine options. A CNG variant could be a good deal for taxi and fleet operators as well as private customers, since they have to keep track of fuel costs in daily use.

On features, the concept shown in Indonesia had a dual-screen dashboard, a separate climate control panel and a panoramic sunroof. The production model coming to India is also likely to get some of these features. Three rows of seating could give families more space. Since the concept was electric, an electric version of the Neira in future cannot be ruled out. But there is no firm information yet that the early Indian model will have an electric powertrain.

The Neira may be unveiled at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, with sales likely to begin in the first half of the year after that. The company has not officially announced a launch date so far. The price, the final engine options and the features have not been disclosed either. Despite the similarity to the Kia Carens Clavis, Hyundai will have to build a separate identity for the Neira on the strength of its design, features and dealership network.
