The monsoon has withdrawn from Maharashtra, and hot, dry weather has persisted across the state since. Humidity in the air may make Mumbai and surrounding areas feel muggy, while strong daytime sun may add to discomfort in Pune and the cities of Vidarbha.
Conditions may vary from city to city and region to region. People have been advised to keep track of local weather forecasts and warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Sea breezes may keep the air humid in Mumbai and the suburbs. The maximum temperature in Mumbai is being recorded between 35 degrees C and 38 degrees C. Even when the temperature is not very high, the heat may feel more intense. Those going out in the afternoon have been advised to drink plenty of water and avoid staying in direct sun for long.
Pune district and some parts of western Maharashtra may see the effect of dry weather after the monsoon's retreat. Temperatures rise with the sun during the day and the heat is felt. The maximum temperature in Pune is reaching 34 degrees C to 36 degrees C. The weather is expected to remain completely dry until October 15, with the chance of rain only 1% to 3%.
Sun and heat may persist during the day in several parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur. However, temperature and cloud conditions may differ locally. In Nagpur, the maximum temperature today is likely to be around 33 degrees C and the minimum around 22 degrees C. No rain has been recorded in Nagpur district in the past 24 hours, and the sky is expected to remain largely clear today.
After the monsoon's departure, attention to crops and irrigation needs is important in areas with less rainfall. Farmers should act in line with local agricultural advisories. The general public has been asked to drink enough water during the heat, wear light clothing and avoid staying in the sun unnecessarily in the afternoon.
