India beat West Indies by 8 wickets in the first ODI, powered by a blistering unbeaten 139 off just 88 balls from Virat Kohli. Kohli struck 10 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 157.95, and in the process broke five major records held by Sachin Tendulkar in a single match.

First, Kohli completed 15,000 runs in ODI cricket. He became only the second batsman in the world to do so, and in the process overtook Tendulkar as the fastest to 15,000 ODI runs.

The second record relates to List A cricket. Kohli has now equalled Tendulkar's record for the most centuries in List A cricket, with both players on 60 hundreds each. The difference is that Tendulkar reached the mark in 538 innings, while Kohli got there in just 338 innings.

The third record concerns centuries on home soil. Kohli has now equalled Tendulkar's tally of 42 international centuries scored in India. For comparison, Ricky Ponting scored a total of 36 international centuries in Australia.

The fourth record is also tied to home turf. Kohli has become the first batsman in the world to complete 7,000 ODI runs at his home ground. No other batsman has scored 7,000 ODI runs at their home venue, another mark on which Kohli has overtaken Tendulkar.

The fifth and final record concerns centuries scored in successful run-chases. With this hundred, Kohli now has 25 centuries in successful chases. Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 14, and Tendulkar is third, also with 14. Kohli has broken both their records in this category.
