The historic Ravan Dahan ceremony at Kasturchand Park in Nagpur completes 75 years this year. In this Amrit Mahotsav year, the celebrations will be grander than before. The ceremony is held every year on Dussehra.
This time, four days of cultural programmes will precede the main Ravan Dahan. Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha has organised the festival between October 16 and 20.
The festival will begin on October 16 with a bhajan jamming session. A grand Ramlila will follow on October 17, 18 and 19. Episodes from the Ramayana will be presented through audio-visual effects and a fire show. According to the organisers, a Ramlila of this kind is being staged for the first time. Entry to these programmes will be free for citizens.
The biggest attraction of the Amrit Mahotsav year is the Ravan Dahan. A 75-foot-tall effigy of Ravan will be erected this time, along with a 65-foot effigy of Kumbhakarna and a 55-foot effigy of Meghnad. The main Ravan Dahan ceremony will be held on October 20. Donation passes have been arranged for entry to this event.
Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha president Vinay Oberoi said that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Padma Shri awardee Satyanarayan Moolwal, Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have been specially invited to the ceremony.
According to Oberoi, the event is an effort to take the ideals and values of Lord Shri Ram's life to society. He has appealed to the people of Nagpur to attend in large numbers and make this 75-year-old tradition memorable.
