JSW Motors plans to launch three electrified SUVs, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric models, by the end of 2027, likely assembled at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Another carmaker is set to enter the Indian auto market. JSW Motors is preparing to introduce three electrified SUVs by the end of 2027, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric models. The vehicles, based on models of Chinese manufacturer Chery, are likely to be assembled at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra. Indian customers could thus get vehicles with new designs and electric technology.
The first is the JSW Combat, the company's first plug-in hybrid SUV, which is likely to be unveiled on December 4. It will be based on an older version of Chery's Jetour Traveller C-DM. A boxy design, tall body and rugged look could be its features. The Indian version is likely to see some changes to the bumper, grille and alloy wheels.
The Combat could get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine along with two electric motors. The combined output is likely to be 355 hp and 610 Nm of torque. With an 18.4 kWh LFP battery, it could cover more than 100 km in electric mode. The five-seater SUV could compete with vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.
The second SUV, the JSW J5, is likely to be unveiled in January 2027. It will be based on Chery's Jaecoo J5. In international markets the model is sold in petrol, hybrid and electric versions, but JSW is expected to bring the electric version to India.
The SUV could get a single electric motor producing 155 kW, or 208 hp, and 288 Nm of torque. A 60.93 kWh LFP battery could give a range of about 500 km on a single charge. Its length could be about 4.38 metres. The actual range will become clear only after the details of the Indian version are known.
The third SUV will be the JSW V23. Based on Chery's iCar V23, its boxy and retro design could give it a distinct identity. The electric SUV is likely to be about 4.22 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.73 metres. It could arrive in India in the second half of 2027 and compete with the Tata Sierra.ev. Its price, battery and motor details are yet to be made clear.
All three SUVs are likely to be brought from China as CKD kits and assembled in India. A clearer picture will emerge only after their prices, features and Indian-version details are revealed.
