Woman alleges auto driver assaulted her after offering ride home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A case of assault on a woman has come to light in the Jambargaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. It is alleged that the auto-rickshaw driver, who had made her sit in his vehicle on the promise of taking her home, instead drove her to a deserted spot and assaulted her. The incident has caused anger in the area.

According to information from the police, the woman had a quarrel with her husband over a domestic matter at home on Monday evening. Angry, she left the house. She reached Kaigaon in an auto-rickshaw and sat for a long time near the road leading to the Rameshwar temple.

At around 11 pm, the driver of a three-seater auto-rickshaw came up to her. Seeing a woman sitting alone so late at night, he asked her what the matter was. She asked him to drop her at Ranjangaon, near Jogeshwari. The driver assured her he would take her home safely and made her sit in the auto-rickshaw.

According to the woman's allegation, after she got in, the driver did not take the route to Ranjangaon and turned the vehicle onto another road. When they reached the Gangapur area, the woman realised this and asked him about it. The driver said it was a shortcut and that he would drop her home safely. In this way he kept the woman with him.

After a journey of a few hours, at around 3 am on Tuesday, the driver stopped the auto-rickshaw at a dark, deserted spot in the Jambargaon area. It is alleged that he then threatened to kill her and assaulted her by force. The allegation also states that he asked her to take off the gold jewellery from her neck and give it to him, and put his hand on her throat.

The woman showed courage at this critical moment. She shook off the driver's hand and ran away. Running, she reached the main road and went to a tea stall. She told the stall owner everything and asked him to call the police immediately.

On receiving the information, a team from Vaijapur police station reached the spot at once. Police brought the woman to the station and questioned her. A case has been registered on her complaint against the unidentified auto-rickshaw driver. No arrest has been reported so far. Police are now trying to identify the driver with the help of CCTV footage from the route.
