INDIA bloc plans six-point campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
Opposition parties meeting in Delhi announced six programmes over alleged vote theft and irregularities in the SIR, with impeachment motions being readied in both Houses.
The INDIA bloc held a meeting at the Constitution Club in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The matter concerns alleged vote theft and irregularities in the SIR. Opposition parties are preparing to bring an impeachment motion against Gyanesh Kumar in both Houses of Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah were among the bloc leaders present. Amid an ongoing tussle with the Congress over seat sharing, Akhilesh Yadav did not attend himself and sent two MPs in his place. Kejriwal also stayed away from the meeting. Stalin was not present either.
After the meeting, the bloc held a joint press conference. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said vote theft had taken place in the country, and that elections and votes had been stolen. According to him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar have attacked India's democracy. Gandhi said these people had tried to end the country's democracy and must be punished. He said the Union government must be punished for this crime. Gandhi also said big changes would certainly be seen in the country in the coming months, and that everyone in the bloc's meeting had agreed on this.
Earlier, Kharge addressed the press conference. He said the suggestions and advice given by all the opposition leaders at the meeting had been discussed in depth. Kharge said the country's Election Commission had become a puppet in the hands of Modi and Shah, and that its strings were in their hands. He said the same people were winning elections by stealing elections and votes. According to Kharge, wherever leaders and young people are trying to save democracy, these people are trying to crush them completely.
Kharge said a programme had been launched for this. He appealed to the INDIA bloc, opposition parties and citizens committed to the Constitution and the unity of the country to join it.
The first programme is a Save Democracy march and demonstrations at the district level from October 2 to October 8. According to Kharge, people are to be fully informed through it about why all this is being done.
The second programme is on October 6, when MPs of all opposition parties will march to the Election Commission. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members of any party can join. Those who want to save the country's democracy can also join the march.
In the third programme, in the second week of October, all opposition parties will make a presentation to the President. According to Kharge, it will be against those who are running a government of theft by harassing and destroying citizens.
The fourth programme is a series of big rallies. Kharge said five big rallies would be held in October and November to explain how the present government is taking away voters' votes, rights, right to life, right to choose a government and right to defend the country.
The fifth programme is a big rally in Delhi in November, where the issue of vote theft will also be raised. Kharge said Rahul Gandhi had already said everything, but as these matters have now come out from the government's side, the INDIA bloc would draw people's attention to them.
The sixth programme concerns the Supreme Court. The demand is for early hearing of all cases relating to electoral scams, including the SIR. The bloc has thus fixed six programmes in all.
