Hyundai's long-awaited Bayon SUV is already drawing attention ahead of its India launch. Before the vehicle reaches the market, the company has announced details of its engine and transmission. The Bayon will be launched in India on October 26, 2026.
The SUV will get a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder MPi petrol engine, which produces 115 PS of power and 143.8 Nm of torque. Customers will have two gearbox options, a 6-speed manual and an iVT automatic, so they can choose the vehicle to suit their preference.
The Bayon will sit between the company's Venue and Creta. It could therefore be a new option for customers planning to buy an SUV. Notably, the same 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine is also used in popular models such as the Creta and the Venue. The company has said that more than 6 lakh vehicles with this engine have been sold since 2020.
The iVT automatic variant will get a special feature, a Dash Boost mode. It has been designed so that the engine responds immediately when overtaking or when the driver needs to move ahead quickly. Sporty drive technology makes acceleration more direct and helps give better reflexes. This variant will also have paddle shifters.
The vehicle will have three driving modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. Eco mode prioritises fuel saving. Normal mode balances performance and efficiency, while Sport mode gives a stronger response when picking up speed. The modes can be switched with a button on the steering wheel.
Bookings for the Bayon have begun at authorised dealerships across the country and on the company's website. Customers will have to pay Rs 11,000. The company plans to begin deliveries during the festive season.
This is a 5-seater SUV. Customers are curious about its features and interior. The price and the variant-wise features will be known on the launch day. The official price is expected to be announced on the same day.
