Hyundai is preparing to make a splash in India's SUV segment. The company will officially launch its new SUV, the Bayon, in the Indian market on October 26. It wants to place the vehicle between popular models such as the Venue and the Creta.
Ahead of the launch, the company has revealed the car's design, safety and features. Bookings have already opened for customers with a token amount of Rs 11,000.
The Hyundai Bayon is built on the company's global K-Enhanced platform. The company claims it has been designed to meet India's 5-star safety standards. Its body structure uses 69 per cent advanced multi-grade high-strength steel. Hot-stamped components are used in key areas such as the front apron, dashboard, rear floor and side reinforcement. These will give occupants of the cabin maximum protection in an accident.
Safety is the SUV's biggest highlight. All variants of the Bayon will get more than 35 safety features as standard. These include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rollover sensors, three-point seatbelts for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
It also gets Hyundai SmartSense Level-2 Pro ADAS with 23 functions, including three radars, 12 parking sensors, smart cruise control, lane following assist and a blind-spot view monitor.
On the engine, the Bayon is likely to get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine. It is expected to produce 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Customers will have a choice of a six-speed manual and an IVT automatic transmission. Whether the company will offer it in a CNG or hybrid option will be revealed only at the launch on October 26.
The SUV will be offered in 10 colours. The monotone shades are Titanium Black, Classy Blue, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Golden Bronze and Ecotronic Grey. There will also be dual-tone options with a black roof, and special matte finish options in Titanium Black and Classy Blue.
The ex-showroom price of the SUV in the Indian market is expected to be between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh.
