Four people have died in the building collapse in the Seemapuri area of east Delhi. The rescue team has recovered four bodies from the debris. The dead include Gulafsha, 21, Haja Bibi, 56, Nusra, 33, and a four-year-old child. The child has not yet been identified.

According to Delhi Police, body parts and human remains were also found in the earth and debris during the rescue work. These have not been identified either, and DNA tests will be needed to establish who they were.

An FIR was registered on October 8 at Seemapuri police station under various sections of law. Police are investigating the case closely and are also trying to find out why the building collapsed.

Officials said the rescue operation at the site has now been stopped completely. The remains found under the debris have been sent for forensic examination so that other aspects can also be looked into.

The accident took place on Wednesday, when a five-storey building collapsed in Seemapuri. Rajendra Prasad Meena, Police Commissioner of Shahdara, said the rescue team has so far managed to save seven lives.

Earlier, Ajay Kumar, District Magistrate of North East Delhi, told reporters that, according to initial information, the building collapsed between about 3 pm and 3.15 pm on Wednesday. He said he received a call at 3.25 pm, in which information was given through a location and a video.

Ajay Kumar is also in charge of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). He said news of the accident was immediately passed to DDMA and NDRF officers and staff, who were called to the spot at once. He said this was why some lives could be saved.

The police investigation is continuing. Who else was in the debris will become clear only after the remains are identified through DNA tests. The cause of the collapse will likewise emerge only when the investigation is complete.
