Nagpur traffic police have banned e-rickshaws on 13 major routes and on highways, and barred them from carrying goods, to ease congestion and reduce accident risk.
Nagpur traffic police have tightened rules for e-rickshaws to reduce congestion and the risk of road accidents in the city. E-rickshaws will no longer be allowed on 13 major routes. Traffic DCP Aditya Mirkhelkar shared the information.
Drivers caught plying e-rickshaws on the restricted routes will be fined. Carrying goods in e-rickshaws has also been banned.
The traffic department has noticed that some drivers are carrying goods along with passengers in e-rickshaws. It has issued clear instructions that goods must not be transported in e-rickshaws. Action will be taken against drivers who break the rules.
According to the traffic department, e-rickshaws will be prohibited on these routes: Buldi to Wadi, Buldi to Bhandara Road (Pardi Naka) via CA Road, Buldi to Kamptee Road on the Jabalpur route, Buldi to Chhatrapati Chowk on Wardha Road, Buldi to Hingna, Buldi to Katol Naka, Buldi to Saoner Road on the Chhindwara route, Buldi to Nandanvan, Buldi to Hudkeshwar and Buldi to Besa.
E-rickshaws have also been barred from all major national and state highways in the city. Those who violate the rule will face action as per the rules.
The department has also explained the reason for the move. The number of vehicles in the city keeps rising, and many families own more than one two-wheeler and four-wheeler. Parking facilities are not adequate in comparison, so pressure on the roads has increased.
In addition, road construction work is under way in different parts of the city, causing congestion on major routes. In this situation, the traffic department took the decision to keep traffic smooth and reduce the risk of accidents.
DCP Mirkhelkar has also appealed to e-rickshaw drivers to form their own independent association. Unlike auto-rickshaw drivers, e-rickshaw drivers have no separate association, which makes it difficult to convey the traffic department's rules and instructions to everyone.
Once an association is formed, communication between the department and drivers will improve, and everyone will get information about the rules on time. This will help keep the city's traffic system smooth.
