City traffic police have barred loading and unloading from goods and commercial vehicles in Nagpur's major markets between 2 pm and 8 pm to ease congestion, till November 26.
Nagpur city police (traffic) have issued fresh directions to tackle traffic jams in the city's markets. Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Milkhelkar has issued a notification in this regard. According to him, the aim is to keep the city's traffic smooth and safe and to bring congestion under effective control.
The notification covers the movement of goods carriers and commercial vehicles in all major markets and commercial complexes of the city. The order specifically names Gandhibagh, Itwari, Kalamna and Sitabuldi. All other major markets and commercial complexes in the city also come under it.
Under the order, loading or unloading goods from goods vehicles, transport vehicles, commercial vehicles or any other vehicle used for carrying goods will be completely prohibited in these areas from 2 pm to 8 pm. According to the police, the restriction has been imposed so that traffic keeps moving smoothly and safely in these busy areas during this period, and people face the least inconvenience.
The ban is not limited to the interiors of the markets. Loading and unloading will also be prohibited during the stipulated hours on roads, roadsides, service roads and at the entry routes to the markets. The work cannot be carried out wherever it obstructs the flow of traffic in any way.
Emergency services have been exempted from the restriction. Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, police vehicles and other vehicles engaged in emergency services will not be covered by the ban when they are operating in emergency situations.
The traffic police notification will remain in force till November 26. The police have appealed to all motorists in the city to follow the notification fully and avoid inconvenience, and to extend full cooperation to the police administration in keeping traffic in order.
