Durgapur police have seized DJ equipment worth Rs 1.80 lakh in action against the playing of a DJ system without a permit. It is alleged that a DJ was being played at very high volume beside a public road during a birthday celebration. The incident took place on the evening of October 7, 2026, on the main road from Durgapur to Chandrapur. Police have registered a case against the DJ operator.
The DJ operator caught in the action is Suraj Vijay Pandit, 31, a resident of Udiya Basti in Jalnagar ward, Chandrapur. Police said that when he was asked for the permit required to play a DJ in a public place, he did not have one.
According to information from police sources, a Durgapur police station team was on night patrol in the area at around 7 pm on October 7, 2026. At that time, police constable Sunil Kamatkar, posted on Dial 112, phoned Sub-Inspector Ravindra Nakkanwar, who was out on patrol. He said a DJ was being played at very high volume at a birthday event on the main road in Durgapur.
On receiving the information, the police team reached the main road from Durgapur to Chandrapur, near Anand Chai Centre. There the police found a DJ being played illegally beside the road at an ear-splitting volume.
Police asked the DJ operator, Suraj Pandit, for the government permission to play a DJ on a public road. It then became clear that he had no permit. The Superintendent of Police, Chandrapur district, has issued strict orders on noise pollution and restricting the use of DJs. Despite this, the DJ operator openly ignored these administrative orders.
Police then drew up a seizure panchnama in the presence of two panch witnesses and seized the entire equipment. The seized items include 1 top, 2 bass speakers, an NXRDO 1801 bass machine, an RX 4000 bass machine, an 801 HF machine, a Daska 260 processor and a Dynatech 850 player with mixer machine. The total value of the equipment has been put at Rs 1.80 lakh.
On the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ravindra Nakkanwar, a case has been registered against the accused, Suraj Pandit, under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 136 and 70 of the Maharashtra Police Act, on charges of defying government orders and violating noise pollution rules. Police constable Gajanan Bhandarkar is conducting further investigation.
