The second phase of Census 2027 will run from January 25 to February 28, 2027, with an optional online self-enumeration window beforehand.
New Delhi: The government has announced that the second phase of India's Census 2027 will run from January 25 to February 28, 2027. The population count will be carried out across the country during this period.
Before census officials begin house-to-house enumeration, people will also get an optional online facility. From January 10 to January 24, citizens will be able to fill in their household details digitally through self-enumeration. The facility is optional, not mandatory.
A separate schedule has been set for states preparing for elections. These include Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa and Manipur, and Uttarakhand will also come under this separate schedule. In these states, self-enumeration will be held from November 16 to November 30, 2026. Officials' house-to-house enumeration will then run from December 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027.
Census 2027 will be India's first fully digital census. It will also include a count of caste.
