Preparations for the IPL 2027 mini auction have begun. The players' auction is reported to be scheduled for December 16 in Goa. The second ODI of the India-Sri Lanka series is due to be played in Bengaluru on the same day. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet officially approved the date and venue of the auction.

Before the auction, all 10 franchises must submit their lists of retained players by November 15. In these lists they will state which players are being retained and which released. Franchises usually expect to receive final information about a week before the auction, including the list of players and full details of their bids. Teams will be able to draw up their strategy on that basis and plan the signing of new players as needed.

Players have also been traded since the end of the IPL 2026 season. Under IPL rules, the trade window opens about a month after the season ends and stays open until about a week before the auction. It opens again about a month before the new season begins.

The two big trades so far involve Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan and Zeeshan Ansari. In June, Pant left Lucknow Super Giants for Delhi Capitals, while Kuldeep Yadav moved to the Lucknow side in exchange. In the latest trade, Delhi Capitals handed fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Zeeshan Ansari returned to the Delhi team.

Zeeshan Ansari has not yet made his international debut, so he is considered an uncapped player. Franchises can change their squads by trading players according to their needs. More players are therefore likely to be traded before the mini auction.

The full schedule for IPL 2027 has not yet been released. In 2024, however, the BCCI issued a tentative schedule for the next three seasons. According to it, the 2027 tournament could be held between March 14 and May 30.

The last three IPL auctions were held outside the country: the 2024 auction in Dubai, the 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi. After three full years, the mini auction is now set to return to India.
