The race, organised by Procam International, also won the "Strongest Economic Impact - Emerging Markets" award in Brand Finance's Marathons Top 50 (2026) report.

Mumbai has added another major distinction. The Tata Mumbai Marathon, organised by Procam International, has been ranked 21st among the world's top 50 marathon brands in Brand Finance's "Marathons Top 50" (2026) report.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon was also given the "Strongest Economic Impact - Emerging Markets" award. The double honour underlines the global importance of the Mumbai race.

Brand Finance is a well-known brand valuation consultancy. It released the report after studying the brand strength, popularity and economic and social contribution of marathons. The study covered more than 75 marathons across nine countries: India, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Brazil, Japan and Australia.

According to the report, the world's top 50 marathons generated an economic impact of about $6 billion in their host cities in 2025. The report says marathons give a big boost not only to the sporting world but also to tourism, hotels, hospitality, retail and local businesses. Such events therefore play an important role in the economic and social development of cities.

Reacting to the honour, Vivek Singh, joint managing director of Procam International, said marathons are no longer just running events. They have become an effective means of bringing people together, taking pride in a city and driving economic growth. He said the Tata Mumbai Marathon has shown how a sporting event built at the local level can reach the world. He said the award would give further strength to the running movement in India.

Adrien Terron, head of corporate brand and marketing at Tata Sons, also welcomed the achievement. He said the Tata Mumbai Marathon is a symbol of Mumbai's spirit, pace and inclusiveness. According to him, people of different ages come together at the event, and Mumbai's identity as a major centre for international sporting events is getting stronger.

Michelle Taylor, global head of sports sponsorships at TCS, also stressed the importance of the marathon. She said the Tata Mumbai Marathon is an excellent example of connecting communities through sport and inspiring people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Shripad Shende, chief marketing officer of IDFC First Bank, said a marathon is not just a competition. It is the story of everyone's personal goals and journey of determination. He added that the event promotes a healthy lifestyle and brings together different sections of society.

Scott Moir, head of sports services at Brand Finance, praised the growing influence of marathon culture in India. He said the Tata Mumbai Marathon has given momentum to running culture and investment in sport in the country. He said such events increase participation, attract business investment and create economic value for host cities.

The international recognition for the Tata Mumbai Marathon is an important milestone for Mumbai's sporting world. The award has underlined that running events are not limited to a single day and can make a large contribution to a city's economic, social and cultural development.
