Brahmapuri (Chandrapur): Brahmapuri police have arrested Ramesh Zhingujee Khanorkar, who had been absconding for 22 years in a case of a murderous assault on his wife in 2004. He is a resident of Kurzha in Brahmapuri.
According to police, Khanorkar had been living in Narsala in Nagpur district, hiding his identity. Acting on a tip-off, police moved on his hideout on October 13. A case had been registered against him at Brahmapuri police station under Sections 307 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code. Police said the accused has confessed to the crime and further investigation is on.
The case was registered at Brahmapuri police station in 2004 under Sections 307 and 326. It is alleged that Khanorkar attacked his wife over a family dispute, seriously injuring her, and then escaped police custody and absconded. The court had declared him a proclaimed offender. For the past 22 years, Brahmapuri police had been searching for him, but he slipped away each time.
Recently, Brahmapuri police received reliable information from a secret informant. They were told that a man had been living completely alone for several years in Narsala village in Mauda taluka of Nagpur district. No relatives visited him, and he did not keep in touch with anyone. Acting on this, police began gathering information on the man in strict confidence.
After detailed questioning and investigation, police became certain that he was the same Ramesh Zhingujee Khanorkar who had absconded after attacking his wife in Brahmapuri 22 years ago. According to police, he had been living in hiding in Narsala (Kanhan taluka, Nagpur district) for all these years under a changed name and identity.
Police took care that the accused did not get wind of the move. Under the guidance of senior officers, a surprise raid was carried out at his hideout in Narsala on October 13, 2026, and he was caught. The accused confessed as soon as he faced the police. He has been formally arrested, and further legal action and investigation against him are moving swiftly.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sahil Zarkar and Police Inspector Kanchan Pande. Assistant Police Inspector Manoj Khadse, head constables Mukesh Gajbe and Milind Naitam, and police personnel Praveen Bhiwagde, Irshad Khan, Nilesh Tumsare, Swapnil Palaspagar and Vashishth Rangari played key roles.
