Chandrapur: An unidentified thief broke the lock of a locked house in Halda village of Brahmapuri tehsil and made off with Rs 1 lakh in cash. The theft took place on September 29 between 10 am and 2.25 pm. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused at Brahmapuri police station. The complaint says the money, which had come from the sale of farm produce, was kept in the locker of a cupboard.
According to police, Waman Motiram Kotgale (56), a resident of Halda, works as a laboratory attendant at Dnyanganga Vidyalaya. He had gone to school that day as usual. His wife Malta (46) and son Pratik (21) had both gone to Brahmapuri on some errand. At about 10 am, Kotgale locked the main door of the house, left the key at the usual place and left for school.
The school broke for lunch at about 2 pm. After having tea, Kotgale returned home at about 2.25 pm to drink water. He found a bolt bar placed across the main door. Suspicious, he went in and found the lock lying on the sofa in the hall. He then went to the bedroom and saw that the door of the iron cupboard was open and the lock of the locker inside had been broken.
Kotgale had kept Rs 1 lakh, the proceeds of the sale of farm produce, in the cupboard locker. He had intended to use the money to buy his son a laptop. The entire amount kept in the cupboard had been stolen. It is said that the unidentified thief, seeing the house locked, seized the opportunity to commit the burglary.
