Theft at locked house in Chandrapur's Rui village: cash, jewellery worth Rs 1.35 lakh stolen

An unidentified thief broke the lock of a locked house in Rui village in Brahmapuri taluka of Chandrapur district and made off with valuables worth Rs 1.35 lakh. According to the complaint, the theft took place on September 29 between 11 am and 12:30 pm. Brahmapuri police have registered a case against the unknown accused.

According to the police, Suresh Ganpat Bulle (60), a resident of Rui, is a farmer. He lives with his wife Uttara (55), daughter Chineshwari Pradhan (25) and five-year-old grandson David.

At around 10 am on September 29, Uttara and Chineshwari left for work in the fields. David had gone to his convent school. At around 11 am, Suresh Bulle locked the main door of the house and left the key in its usual place. He then went to his tea and snack stall at the village bus stop.

When his wife and daughter returned from the fields at around 12:30 pm, they saw the lock of the main door lying on the ground. Suresh Bulle reached home at around 3 pm. His wife then asked him whether he had locked the door. He said he had left only after locking it. When the lock lying on the ground was examined, it was found broken.

Suspicious, they all went inside and found the door of the iron cupboard open. The outer lock of the cupboard and the lock of the small inner locker were both broken.

Rs 20,000 in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 1.15 lakh, kept in the locker, were missing. The stolen jewellery includes a 10-gram gold chain worth Rs 50,000, a 5-gram gold ring worth Rs 25,000 and two gold nose pins of 4.5 grams worth Rs 20,000. A pair of 3-gram earrings worth Rs 10,000 and a pair of silver anklets of 5 tola worth Rs 10,000 were also taken. Together, these make up jewellery worth Rs 1.15 lakh, and Rs 20,000 in cash was taken along with it.

According to the complaint, an unidentified thief found the house empty, broke the lock of the main door, entered, and took the cash and jewellery from the cupboard.

On Suresh Bulle's oral complaint, Brahmapuri police have registered a case against the unknown accused under Sections 305(a) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police Constable Milind Naitam is investigating further under the supervision of Police Inspector Pramod Banbale. No arrest has been reported so far.
