BMW Motorrad has filed an Indian patent for the Vision CE concept, but a patent filing does not mean an early launch, and the company has given no date.
BMW Motorrad, known for bringing new technology to electric two-wheelers, has filed a patent in India for its futuristic electric two-wheeler, the BMW Vision CE. The concept bike is being talked about mainly for its self-balancing technology, which means the vehicle can keep its own balance.
The concept also features a sturdy cage-like structure for rider safety and possibly advanced sensors. However, a patent filing does not mean the bike will soon reach the Indian market. The company has not announced an official launch date.
The Vision CE concept is now in the spotlight after BMW Motorrad's CE 02 and CE 04 electric models. A design different from a conventional scooter, balancing technology and a special emphasis on safety are the concept's main features.
The most attractive feature of the Vision CE is its self-balancing system. The idea presented is that the vehicle stays balanced even when stationary. As a result, a rider may not need to put a foot on the ground when stopping at a traffic signal.
The system may use technology such as sensors and electric actuators. But the company has not disclosed how it works in full or the final technical details. A stand may be used when the vehicle is parked for a long time. Whether the self-balancing system can be switched off at such times to save the battery will become clear only when the actual production model emerges.
The design gives special importance to rider safety. The concept shows a strong cage-like structure around the vehicle. The aim is to give the rider additional protection in an accident or if the vehicle overturns.
The front of the vehicle has a tubular steel frame, designed to protect the rider's legs. The concept also includes a four-point seatbelt, parts that protect the sides of the body, and foam cushioning.
The structure is an attempt to give a two-wheeler a car-like sense of safety. However, there is no official information yet on which safety features the production model will have and which rules will apply to them. It cannot be concluded from the concept's design that helmets or other protective gear will no longer be needed.
Official details of the Vision CE's battery capacity, motor power, torque, range and top speed have not been released. It is possible that some technology from the BMW CE 04 is used in this concept, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Some versions of the BMW CE 04 are stated to have an 8.5 kWh battery, a range of about 130 km, 42 hp of power, 62 Nm of torque and a top speed of 120 km/h. These figures are for the CE 04 and are not official specifications of the Vision CE.
For now, there is no official announcement on the price, battery capacity, real-world range or launch date of this electric two-wheeler. To know when the BMW Vision CE will arrive in the Indian market, one will have to wait for the company's next announcement.
