11 teams from four states play in Zone 5 inter-DPS boys' basketball meet at DPS Mihan
The three-day league-format tournament in the open category began on October 9 at the Delhi Public School campus in Mihan, Nagpur.

Delhi Public School (DPS) Mihan inaugurated the inter-DPS boys' basketball tournament (open category) on its campus on October 9, 2026. The campus has modern sports facilities. The three-day tournament is in league format, and 11 teams from Zone 5 are taking part. The teams have come from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
Dr Sharad Suryavanshi was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. He is a director at YCMOU, secretary of the Nagpur District Athletics Association and a former international player. Shatrughna Gokhale, secretary of the Maharashtra Basketball Association and a Shiv Chhatrapati Award winner, attended as guest of honour. Management member Anunay Kedia, an alumnus of the London School of Economics, was also present.
Tulika Kedia, pro-vice chairperson and president of DPS Mihan and DPS Kamptee Road, Nagpur, and Savita Jaiswal, director of both schools, joined online. They wished all the players well. Yogita Umalkar, principal of DPS Kamptee Road, and Indrajit Parghania, bursar of DPS Mihan and DPS Kamptee Road, also attended.
Principal Nidhi Yadav gave the welcome address. She urged the young players to embrace teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. She said victories are memorable, but lifelong friendships made on the basketball court are among the most valuable prizes of a school tournament.
In his address, chief guest Dr Suryavanshi stressed the importance of developing sport at the grassroots. He also praised the host school's world-class infrastructure. Guest of honour Gokhale said the school is providing excellent facilities to promote a sporting culture. Kedia also encouraged the players, telling them to play with focus and compete honestly.
The DPS Society flag was hoisted and balloons were released to mark the formal start of the tournament. More than 100 DPS Mihan students gave a lezim performance. DPS Kamptee Road then presented an orchestra.
Play on the first day began with a match between DPS Gandhidham and DPS Chhindwara, which Chhindwara won. The second match, between DPS Surat and DPS Bopal, Ahmedabad, was won by Bopal. In the third match DPS Mihan faced DPS Kolar Road, and Kolar Road won.
The courts are ready and the players are in high spirits. The three-day tournament is expected to showcase emerging basketball talent, competitive spirit and camaraderie among the participating schools.
