Police traced Mugdha Deshmukh through an online food delivery transaction; immigration records reportedly show she left the UK in late August 2026.

The body of a 34-year-old woman, Mugdha Deshmukh, has been found in a locked flat at the Lodha Belmondo society in Gahunje, Pune. She was the daughter of Avinash Deshmukh, a retired chief engineer of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation. The case came to light after the family lost contact with her.

The incident has raised the question of where Mugdha was in the weeks before her death. According to immigration records, she is said to have left the United Kingdom at the end of August 2026. The family, however, believed she was still living in London, where she had gone for higher studies.

The case surfaced on the night of Wednesday, October 28. A police team from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar traced Mugdha's location through an online food delivery transaction and reached the residential society. When the officers reached the flat, the door was found locked from inside, and a foul smell was coming from the flat. Police then broke open the door and found Mugdha's decomposed body in the bedroom.

According to the complaint, Mugdha had gone to London in July 2025 to pursue an MBA. She took that decision after the death of her husband. She is said to have lived alone there, worked part-time, and stayed in regular touch with her parents through video calls and messages.

Her last conversation with her mother was on October 23. In that call, Mugdha is said to have told her she was in a hurry because she had to go for a job interview.

The next evening, when her parents tried to call her, her mobile phone was switched off. They could not reach her after that, and the family's worry grew.

The Pimpri Chinchwad police are investigating the circumstances of Mugdha's death. Further information is awaited on the cause of death and on what happened before the body was found.
