A 42-year-old software engineer working at an IT company in Hinjewadi has lodged a police complaint against a Rapido bike-taxi rider. She alleges that the rider made her get off midway, demanded money for the incomplete ride, recorded their heated argument and posted the video on social media to defame her.
According to the complaint, the woman booked a Rapido bike-taxi at around 1 pm to travel to her office in Hinjewadi. She asked the rider to take the route past Sunny's World at Sus. The rider allegedly refused and insisted on following the route shown in the app. The disagreement over this escalated during the trip.
The rider then stopped the vehicle on Bavdhan bridge and asked the woman to get off before reaching her destination. He demanded payment for the distance already covered. The woman objected, asking why she should pay for a ride that had been cut short. The argument continued at the spot, and the rider recorded her during it. The woman alleges that the footage was later circulated online to defame her.
The woman went to Bavdhan police station (Pimpri Chinchwad Police) and filed a complaint. Senior Police Inspector Arvind Pawar confirmed that the police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence in the matter. An NC offence generally means that the police can neither investigate nor make an arrest without the permission of a judicial magistrate.
A video of the argument has gone viral on social media. In the footage in circulation, the woman is seen arguing with the rider and then walking away. She is alleged to refuse to pay, tell the rider not to come near her and threaten to complain of harassment.
